| Quote: | Ooo akulah anak gembala
Merentas segenap desa
Ke gunung padang dan lurah
Dari pagi hingga senja
Berbekalkan tongkat rotan
Rotan jati dari hutan
Ooo akulah anak gembala
Merentas sungai dan rimba
Beginilah tiap masa
Tapi hatiku gembira
Bertemankan kambing tua
Lembu jantan dan betina
Ibu, sangat sayang kepadaku
Membekal pengat dan susu
Untuk mengalas perutku
Ayah memberi seruling tua
Untuk menghiburkan hati
Bila terasa sunyi
Ooo tiada siapa yang tahu
Nun jauh tinggi di gunung
Buah hatiku menunggu
Gembala seperti aku
Dia suka kepadaku
Aku suka kepadanya

Melaka the land of sultans
|
|
The original name of melaka come from a tree that we call 'melaka'.The tree When a Parameswara saw a small but aggressive white mousedeer intimidated his hunting dogs that they turned and fell into the water. The place where the weak can triumph over the strong. The Melaka tree has juicy fruits located at the base of the leafy twigs and once grew in great abundance along the banks of the Melaka river.
Melaka had the advantage of being on the narrowest part of the Straits where the deep water channel was near to the Malaysian side. The river mouth formed a small harbour overlooked by the hill on which the ruler and his chiefs could build a fortified stockade protected on the land side by marshes. At first, no doubt, piracy and fishing were the main occupations but soon traders began to call and the little settlement prospered.
The Malay Annals (or Sejarah Melayu) traces the decedents of the Sultans and tells of the memorable events and dramatic tales of the royal family of Melaka and its close advisors. For instance, Sri Maharaja Mohammed Shah had a strong sense of fairness, he heard grievances and administered justice personally. Sultan Mudzaffar Shah was a noble person with many wives, all daughters of neighbouring kings. Sultan Mansur Shah is praised for his sense of justice, humaneness and good looks. The last sultan, Mahmud Shah was remarkable for his well-built body. His brother Raja Zainal Abidin was so handsome that his looks was so flawless and his every movement was a miracle of beauty that he had no rival in those days.
With the coming of the Portuguese to Melaka, it marks as a special moment in history that would lead with the ultimate doom of the rule of the Malay Sultans of Melaka. In 1511, the Portuguese had captured the city and oust its Sultan and even today.Right now the land of sultans don't have a sultans any more .

FROM TIN TOWN TO TOWER CITY...
|
|
| Quote: |
Near the center of Kuala Lumpur, where the Klang and Gombak rivers flow quietly together forming a broad delta, their confluence barely noticed amid the dwarfing skyline of gleaming new hotels and office buildings... this is where it all began in 1857 for a group of 87 Chinese miners who were in search of tin. Those pioneers were a rough, hardy lot, and the city retains some of that early boomtown character. At that time, tin was in huge demand, especially by America and the British Empire, which needed the durable, lightweight metal to help fuel their industrial revolutions. Strategically commanding both river valleys, the community flourished as a tin-collecting center despite its malarial jungle location. The tin prospectors flowed into this place they named the "muddy confluence" (Kuala Lumpur in Malay) and settled in Ampang (now a suburb), forming factions within themselves which wrestled for this precious material. Chaos ensued and in 1868, the headmen of the local clans elected a man named Yap ah Loy as "Kapitan China," or leader of the Chinese community. And he became known as the founding father of KL.With independence,
KL was poised for its greatest transformation ever. One of the city's darkest days came in 1969, when civil unrest - spawned by racial tensions - swept through the city, sparking a state of emergency that would last for two years. Bolstered by a growing economy and a sincere desire for cooperation between Malaysia's ethnic groups, the tensions subsided, and in 1974 the city was given the status of Wilayah Persekutuan (or Federal Territory). The last 10 years have seen Kuala Lumpur undergo phenomenal growth, with a population explosion of almost 50 percent, not to mention development on a monumental scale. The world's tallest buildings, the Petronas Twin Towers, now rise above the city of 2 million. The patriotic locals are always out in force on 31 August, the anniversary of Malaysian independence back in 1957, KL's proudest moment as the Union Jack slid down and the new Malaysian flag was hoisted above the capital. If those 87 Chinese miners could have poled their way 140 years up the river of time, they probably wouldn't recognize the legacy that began where the two muddy rivers |

History to remember
|
|
The strategic significance of Pulau Pinang led to intense interest by British on acquiring the island. The interest was motivated by its strategic location in terms of military, economic and political concerns. The island is vital for firstly, stationing British naval forces in protecting their East Indies interest, secondly, transit trading point between China and India and finally, to curtail the resurrection of Dutch power.
The cessation of Pulau Pinang takes place in a backdrop of constant Siamese threat to Kedah. Sultan Abdullah Mukarram Syah appealed to the British for protection from the Siamese threat. The British appointed Sir Francis Light to negotiate the protection conditions. In return for protection, The British obtained an exclusive lease of Pulau Pinang for her British East India Company. Lead by sir Francis Light, the British established a settlement on Pulau Pinang on 11 August 1786.
With the British gaining control of Pulau Pinang, the British named Georgetown as the new capital, named after King George However, the British failed to fulfill their promise to protect Kedah from Siamese threat and caused relationship between the two to deteriorate. A planned attacked by Kedah failed and Kedah was forced to hand over part of her land to the British. The land was named Province Wellesley and now known as Seberang Prai.
Pulau Pinang experience tremendous population growth, it increase from a mere 1,000 to 12,000 in approximately 20 years. Trade stimulated this population increase. Pulau Pinang's potential as a trade hub was recognized by the British and her status was upgraded to Presidency in 1805. With this new status, came infrastructual development. It was under British rule until 1957, when it became part of the Federation of Malaya, and subsequently joined Malaysia in 1963.
